John Foley, Master Mariner and Great Barrier Reef ‘Grand Pilot’ gathered together at St. Augustine’s Church, Hamilton, Brisbane on 26 June 2015 to farewell John and commemorate his life. It was said of his passing: “Captain John Foley enjoyed a full life that would have been more than enough for two lesser men.â€
Australian Reef Pilots win training award

A coastal pilot training program tailored to the unique challenges of working on the Great Barrier Reef has been recognised by the Transport & Logistics Industry Skills Council (TLISC). Australian Reef Pilots (ARP) was awarded the 2015 Innovation and Excellence in Workforce Development Award in the maritime Sector for the competency-based training of its Pilot Boat Launch Crew.
New owners for historic Queensland maritime company

Australia’s oldest and largest marine pilotage company Australian Reef Pilots (ARP) has been bought by a consortium of its employees. ARP, which services all types of shipping through the Great Barrier Reef, has been sold by the private Brisbane-based company Torres Industries to a group of ARP executives and reef pilots, making for a very ‘hands on’ team.

It was only 30 years ago that a medium sized carrier, the 61,000 tonne World Jade, made maritime history when she cautiously nosed her way through what would become one of the most important and valuable sea passages on Earth.
